Having been a professional female boxer, Tiara Brown has made boxing history by winning the WBC Featherweight Champion title. On Saturday, the 36-year-old Florida fighter gave an amazing performance that guaranteed a split-decision triumph over Australian champion Skye Nicolson. Brown’s boxing career reaches a major turning point with her hard-fought 10-round battle dethroning Nicolson.

A Contest to Remember

The fight was fiercely contested, and the judges’ scorecards captured the intensity of the encounter. One judge sided with Nicolson at 96-94; two judges voted for Brown with scores of 97-93 and 96-94. Brown fell to the canvas in tears as the last decision was declared, overcome with the knowledge of her much-awaited championship triumph.

For Nicolson (12-1), this battle marked her first professional loss, so breaking an amazing run of performance. Originally claiming the WBC Featherweight Champion title in April, the Australian had effectively defended it twice before against Brown.

Brown’s Trip from Police Officer to Boxing Ring

Brown writes of tenacity and commitment. She first worked for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., then joined the Fort Myers Police Department in her native Florida before developing a name in women’s boxing.

Brown stayed close to her community even as she worked on her boxing career. Working with the Fort Myers Police Athletic League, she coached young athletes and encouraged them to follow their aspirations. Her Fort Myers PD colleagues were unflinching in their support, sharing a moving message on Instagram before her major fight:

“She has always been a fighter — both in and out of the ring.”

Emotional Triumph and Future Strategies

Brown, speaking with DAZN following her victory, expressed great appreciation for her path and credited faith and tenacity for her success. She said, noting the years of diligence that brought her to this point:

“It has been 20-plus years of wanting this moment.”

Brown is not making snap decisions about her next fight, even with the thrill around her triumph. She actually plans to take some earned time off.

“I like my choices. My choices are strong. Right now, though, I simply want to go home, eat some cupcakes and cookies, and watch some cartoons,” she said, smiling.
